Someone told me recently that Horror was the way to go if you want to sell a script. But as far as I can see, the whole horror thing has been, gone, shown, hit and we should be onto the next thing.
Any suggestions?

Yeah, I've seen a good bit of "new" horror films lately. But all of them try to put in as much witty dialougue as possible that they don't concentrate on the horror aspect.
Examples-
Thirteen Ghosts had a sappy, love your family ending. That crap doesn't belong if a film where a lawyer gets sliced in half.
Bones had pacing problems. The real horror didn't begin until the tail end of the story, and even then it was a more comical than scary.
If you do decide to write a horror script, make sure that it's actual horror. I wanna jump out of me seat because I'm scared as hell.

I see Blair Witch 2 was released quietly onto DVD ...
The next Big Thing will be a low-budget fantasy flick, with extras cast from one of the many LRP clubs.
Why?
Because ppl will want gritty versions of Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings ... and with fantasy, that includes zombies!
then the curve will change and a new era will dawn with the release of Dangerous Kitchen.

I don't really want to write horror, not the jump-outta-your-seat kind. I'd love to do an intellegent thriller like Momento or Usual Suspects.
I was just asking the NBT question to those who know more about what's going on than I do.
Lawyers being sliced in half eh?.....mmm

That was shot with one of those new GYNOcams if I understand correctly.
Now that was an impressive chunk of equipment.
